forensic disability

Expecting to commence program in Term 4, The Power In You Project will be working with clients who have an intellectual disability, ABI or Mental Health diagnosis and are involved in the criminal justice system. This program specifically addresses people with multiple and complex needs and whose choices are, in part, impacted by their cognitive impairment.

Our forensic disability team will take a sensitive approach to working with clients, accounting for varying communication and learning styles. The program is jointly facilitated by the Justice Coordinator who has eleven years of combined experience working in Corrections and Disability, supported by our Justice Development Manager who has 10 years experience working in the prison system and our Forensic Psychologist with a decade of expertise in the prison and public health systems.

The program aims to address emotional foundations in a non-threatening environment that is accessible to all learning abilities. Wherever possible, facilitators will meet with participants prior to program commencement (including pre-release from custody where feasible) to establish comfort and rapport and increase likelihood of consistent engagement.
